Lakeway Police Department is joining forces with the Texas Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety to save lives on Texas roads and highways by working together to increase seat belt use.
Buckling up saves lives and protects motorist against expensive citations. Law enforcement officers will be working overtime from May 21 to June 3 ticketing anyone who isn't wearing a seat belt, both in the front seat and the back seat.
Children under 8 must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches. Fines and court costs for failing to fasten seat belts can add up to $250 or more.
